Henley's T&V Regatta is the only event of the year at which townsfolk and tourists can picnic and relax by the river on the magnificent lawns owned by the Royal Regatta. It's a family-friendly event that offers refreshments, a licensed bar and rides aboard the majestic umpire launches.
It's also the only regatta on the Henley Reach to run 3-abreast racing and it attracts over 200 crews from clubs near and far, including Oxford, London and often much further afield.
The regatta has existed for over 150 years and is different from the exclusive and world-renowned Royal Regatta because it includes events for rowers of all abilities. It's also the only time during the year when the carpet-like lawns belonging to the Royal Regatta are open to the public with free entry to the riverside enclosure and no dress code.
You can bring family or friends, whether you're an avid rowing fan or just wanting to enjoy a day out by the river, without needing to worry about the cost or what to wear.
Racing programmeRacing usually commences at about 8.30am and runs continuously throughout the day, with the last race at about 7.00pm. There are events for many clases of boat and they are divided into two sets, one for the morning division which culminates in the first set of finals running up to lunchtime, and the 2nd set running through the afternoon with finals leading up to the end of the day. The timetable and draw showing all events and race times can be downloaded from the Competitors page.
The last race of the day is often the decider in determining the victor ludorum (the club that achieved the greatest success across the whole day) and they will win the Peter Sutherland Cup, one of the Regatta's large collection of wonderful trophies, just some of which can be seen here. All of the crew members of the winning boat in each event also receive a presentation tankard to take home with them.
